BonsaiBoy.com

The thing I noticed about your site is the unbelievably low prices. My buddy got a bonsai from a local nursery and it cost him an arm and a leg. I shopped around a little myself before finding your site and was totally blown away. What is your secret?

We keep our prices low by hiring no outside help. We are family operated and take great pride in providing special attention to every order. I am sure our customers appreciate the care and effort that we put into selecting and shipping their trees.

These are not just “run of the mill” products either. Your selection is really impressive. I am seeing varieties I have never seen before or thought possible.

We grow a huge assortment of bonsai trees. All bonsai trees in our collection include information on the tree’s common and botanical name, approximate age and height as well as the price.

I can personally attest to the quality of your creations, so I can gladly say I am really impressed with BonsaiBoy.com Could you briefly describe for my readers what they can expect when ordering from your online catalogue?

Each of our premium trees is potted in a glazed, proportionate, ceramic container which includes decorative landscape pebbles and a multi-colored, textured rock accessory. Our custom bonsai soil mix has been developed over the years to ensure good water retention, drainage and nutrition absorbing capacity. All of our bonsai trees are shipped with easy-to-follow care instructions and carefully wrapped and securely packaged so that they arrive quickly and in excellent condition.

For the beginners out there, what do you recommend for those who would like to own a bonsai tree but don’t have a so-called “green thumb”? Do you have anything that is easy to care for?

Check out our web page entitled “Bonsai Boy’s Recommendations” for trees that do well in less than favorable conditions, such as poor indoor lighting, neglected watering, inexperienced gardeners, etc. Our selection of recommended trees are “indoor” bonsai trees which will do well indoors or outdoors in temperatures above 50 ° F. We also have artificial varieties and wire sculptures for those who are looking for the classy look of a bonsai but without the time or energy consumption required.

The instructions you included were very easy to follow, and many of the accessories and tools were relatively easy to find at the local hardware shop. Do you sell these items yourself for those who are unable to find them, or because WalJerk killed their locally owned hardware store?

In our enthusiasm to enrich your readers’ bonsai experience, we offer an extensive selection of quality bonsai tools in both Beginner and Professional grades. Ask them to browse our large selection of bonsai pots, soils, tree nutrients, insecticides, figurines, T-shirts, coffee mugs and much more. Consider our moisture meter, a vital tool used to take the guess work out of watering.

What else have you made available at BonsaiBoy.com?

We also offer an extensive selection of meticulously hand-crafted fountains and waterfalls that promote calm and bring a wonderful new ambience to your space. Our waterfalls incorporate rock and cascading water to re-create the beauty and spirit of mountains, while our table-top fountains offer calming rhythms, visual beauty and whimsical motifs. All include a re-circulating pump. We also offer a variety of books containing expert advice on growing, training and caring for your bonsai tree for both beginning and experienced growers.

How did you get into Bonsai trees. It seems to be almost more like a hobby for you then a business. You are clearly dedicated to your Bonsai addiction.

My addiction started early in life. Some were cute; some were plain. Some were large and some were small. There were those that would flower and those that would bear fruit … it made no difference to me. I was hooked.

You mentioned that BonsaiBoy.com was a family operated business. How did you get them involved?

Before too long, I was teaching the craft to my family and friends and becoming more and more immersed in bonsai activities. Then I joined a second bonsai club. By this time, my small collection had become a large collectio … my wife and I knew, cared for, and named each and everyone of our trees … they became our family.

It is very clear that your obsession became a passion to spread the craft. Tell the readers how you turned what was first a personal hobby, then a family past time, into a family business dedicated to Bonsai.

We took the show “on the road” to street fairs, craft and flower shows and finally to malls. You can imagine how difficult it was lugging around 5000 lbs. of trees, setting up and breaking down our display, being away from home for days on end. Like our trees, we too grew older and realized that in order to remain active in bonsai, we needed a better way to market our products.

This is when BonsaiBoy.com was born? What helped you decide PayPal as a catalyst was the way to go?

In 1993, well before the average person heard of cyberspace, we created a website which has expanded over the years to meet the needs of our customers. Today our internet business has grown to the point where our cyber customers are our primary focus, to facilitate that we have incorporated PayPal as one of our primary payment gateways. It is safe, secure and well-established. We feel very safe using PayPal, and we are glad our customers do too.
